Crippen's Restaurant

Crippen's is a casual atmoshpere, fine dining restaurant. We have a daily changing menu featuring a variety of homemade breads, soups, homegrown organic salads (seasonal), creative appetizers, fresh seafood, prime meats, game meats, homegrown organic vegetables (seasonal), homemade desserts and ice creams.  All sauces are made from our own stocks.  Our talent rests in vinaigrettes, sauces, marinades and a creative abiltiy to combine unusual flavors and textures.

Crippen's Restaurant has earned 5 Stars from Greensboro News and Record's Food Critic of 15 years, John Batchelor, in September of 1995, just 9 months after opening.  He has consistently kept that status for over 12 years!

In August 1996, Crippen's earned the honor of cooking dinner at the prestgious James Beard House in New York City as he was sponsored by Country Inn Bed and Breakfast Magazine's "Great Country Inn Chef Series".

Throughout the decade, we have earned many rave reviews which you can read in our "reviews" section.

Fast forward 10 years: in August 2006, Crippen's won the NC Dept. of Agriculture's "Best Dish in North Carolina" contest.

I am Jimmy Crippen. I run the front of the house which means I am in charge of the "Booze and the Schmooze!"  This is where the casual atmosphere is encouraged.  My motto is "I'd rather be stuffed than stuffy!"

I teach my staff from the Seagram's and Stirling Vineyards School of Service and Hospitality program.  The program teaches the basics of Five Star Service and I teach the basics of being friendly and guiding our guests through the menu, winelist and cocktail menu at Crippen's.

The winelist is an eclectic selection of boutique wineries mainly focused on American wines. Our cocktail program is nothing short of fun!  The dinner and dessert menus speak for themselves and the servers are confidently knowledgeable and more than happy to talk food and wine with you.

When you dine at Crippen's, you are served by more staff than you can imagine. Your server will greet you and bring you your drinks, take your order and mark your table with the proper silverware for each course.  Another  will serve your bread and water. Another will bring your food while yet another will clear your empty dishes.

You will see that, along with great food,  service and friendliness are key at Crippen's.
